Banbu Sushi and Grill- Restaurant Week Jan 2011

Yay! Our first blog entry ! What better way to kick it off than a review of Banbu Sushi that the gals (Ivy, Ris and Andie) and I did at the beginning of the year during Restaurant Week in San Diego. For those who don’t know what restaurant week is, here’s a link to all the juicy details: http://www.sandiegorestaurantweek.com/.
So our first impression of this place was that it seemed very popular due to the amount of people waiting for a table. Luckily, we had made reservations and were able to get seated right away. Andie was the first to show up while the rest of us were a few minutes late due to the rush hour traffic. Once we got there we were greeted with this yummy goodness that Andie ordered as an appetizer:

This my friends, is their Kobe beef roll. I was a little hesitant to try it because I had never had a sushi roll with anything other than veggies and seafood, but THIS alone should be a reason to come back to this place =P The beef was soo tender and saturated the overall taste of this roll. HIGHLY recommended! This roll doesn’t seem to be on their regular menu, but it is part of their happy hour menu which is Sunday-Thursday 2:30-6:30pm.

We all ordered from the restaurant week menu which consisted of a 3 course meal.

First course: Appetizers

Andie, Ris and I opted for this one:
Grilled Lamb Chops (Grilled New Zealand lamb chops marinated in a Korean BBQ sauce and served with Kimchi.)
And Ivy opted for this one:
Banbu Wontons (Lobster and shrimp with ginger, scallion and served with a tobiko sauce.)
Main Course:

This was Ris and Andie's:
Mt. Fuji Roll
(Shrimp tempura, avocado cream cheese roll with salmon outside topped with spicy crab, shrimp, jalapeno, eel sauce and a sprinkle of chopped cilantro.)

Ivy and I had the Filet Teriyaki bowl:
Filet, mushrooms, broccoli, and teriyaki sauce over steamed rice.

Dessert:

Andie and I chose the Banbu Lava Cake:
Banbu Chocolate Lava Cake: Served with a vanilla gelato.
Ris had the Tahitian Creme Brulee:
Served with fresh fruit and wafers.

And Ivy had the Banana Tempura

Banana prepared tempura style served with a vanilla gelato and topped with a caramel sauce.
Overall we had a very satisfying experience. The sushi was delicious, everything tasted fresh, and they had excellent customer service.

We all went home full and happy - Mission accomplished. =)
